Cite11 is an independent citation-verification service for legal filings, operated by Legal Search Hub LLC. Paste a citation or upload a brief; every case citation in it is checked against the public court record, and you get a plain statement of what the record shows.

What it checks

A citation can be wrong in three ways: the case does not exist, the case exists but the citation points somewhere else, or the case exists but the quoted words are not in it. Cite11 checks all three, and reports one of five findings for each citation — verified, address mismatch, quote not found, not found, or outside coverage — or says plainly that a citation could not be checked.

Cite11 verifies that citations exist and resolve to the case named; it does not report whether a case is still good law. It does not report treatment (overruled, reversed, superseded), and it does not judge whether a case supports the argument it was cited for. That part of the work stays with the lawyer.

How it is tested

We test Cite11 against the citations judges have already ruled on — the fabricated, mis-addressed, and misquoted citations named in published sanctions orders — and publish every number, including the misses. The full results and the raw data are on the benchmark page.
